WANTFA LIVE MACHINERY DEMO DAY
Having the right seeding equipment can make a huge difference to crop emergence and establishment success, especially in dry years. Fortunately, seeders and spreaders are the hot topic at this year’s WANTFA Live Machinery Demo Day, sponsored by Rural Bank, on September 4 in Goomalling.
After the huge success of last year’s deep ripper themed day, farmers and machinery enthusiasts can compare apples with apples with several manufacturers showcasing what their machines can do side-by-side.
WANTFA Vice Chair Trevor Syme said seeder choice was very important, and in dry years could mean the difference between crops germinating or not.
‘There has been a fair bit of discussion about seeders this year, some people have crops up where others haven’t, to be able to put seed on the moisture is important,’ he said.
‘It’s good to have an independent demo day, where we have all the different machines lined up in the paddock at the same time and not just one manufacturer trying to push their product.
‘We will have all the machines in the paddock at the same time, we can compare apples with apples, without the dealer breathing down your neck saying theirs is the best.’
Trevor said looking at machinery at field days when they are new might not be the best way to make machinery purchasing decisions.
‘All machines look nice when they’re shiny and new, but it might not work the way you want it to work,’ he said.
The demo day is hosting several leading manufacturers of seeding and spreading equipment. It’s a free event for farmers to attend thanks to Rural Bank. Lunch will also be provided on the day.
