PROMOTING & RESEARCHING
NO-TILLAGE SUSTAINABLE FARMING

What does WANTFA do

WANTFA aims to drive the sustainability of W.A farming through innovation, initiative and extension.

1. Long-term no-till farming systems project (GRDC Funded)
The project will provide valuable data and information on a range of topics and establish a highly valued systems trial that will provide a foundation for future advancement in no-till. The environmental and economic benefits of the new no-till system will be determined in the long term. This information will be used to advance current crop production systems—higher and more sustainable profits resulting from increased yields, decreased fertiliser inputs, improved soils and water utilisation and reduced erosion.

2. Centre for Stubble retention research and development (GRDC, DAFF and Industry Funded).

WANTFA has a central site in Cunderdin and satellite sites across the state that investigates and offers solutions to the barriers to adoption of a permanent stubble retention system. These include research into herbicide efficacy, disc seeding systems, precision agriculture and grazing..

3. Extension

WANTFA extends research and increases farmer knowledge by;

Holding annual events: 2 main field days and an annual conference.Publishing no-till related information: Quarterly journals, Best Bets packages and fact sheets.
Providing regionally based activities: workshops, bus tours and training courses.
